Sure. I think its even niftier to encapsulate them on a DIP8 adapter of
course. Since I will have the resources soon to do one or two fun things,
I'm checking around to see if there is a tolerable SMD matched pair that
enough people will like, maybe then making a batch of these boards would be
reasonable.

2k are not uncommon. For example Ray Wilsons Music from Outer Space VCO
uses them. If you modify a Synthi VCS3 for stability you'll wind up using 3
of them.
