Ahoy...
I've been doing a bunch of work on the Speak&Spell and other gadgets  
for the past 7 years or so. I'm working on a modular synth now which  
brought me to the this mailing list, but my main gig is circuit  
modification.

I've built a few of the highly liquid midi Speaks. They work well.  
There are two running modes last I checked. One allows you to trigger  
keys on the keypad, the other allows you to trigger sound bits. I  
greatly prefer the sound bit mode. You can easily create melodies and  
rhythms by controlling the S&S in this mode with a simple midi  
sequencer.
