Hi Scott -

The idea behind grounding only one side of the cable is to minimize ground
loop potential - I use it a lot in the wiring I do at the radio station
where I work, or in wiring permanent sound systems.

But in my modular I make all my patch cords (1/4 inch) with both ends
connected signal AND ground.

IMHO, if all your modules are in the same rack with a common ground, and you
don't use any outboard equipment - go ahead and leave one end lifted -
otherwise I would (and do) ground both ends....

I've been making my own cables, and I just remembered, I think I read
something a couple of years ago about only connecting the shield/ground to
one side of the cable. Is that right, or am I wrong. Right now my cables
have the ground connected at both ends. I'm getting ready to make a bunch
more, and want to make sure I do it correctly.
