People mix up the 556 (dual 555) and the rare 566 all the time.

Yes! The chip runs in reverse. ;-)  Seriously, the power connections 
are Ground and V- instead of V+ and Ground. Thomas credits this 
discovery to John Simonton (originally with the 566, I think).

I believe the 2206 is still in production but the 566 and 8038 are not.
