Rummaging through my junkbox I was sure I had a 566 or two. Well, I
have 555, 556,565, and 567, but no 566. My memory is telling me this
isn't the first time that this has happened.

But, I do have a pair of 8038s, one with a 1.79 price tag from the
shack!, and a pair of XR-2206s. Looking at the schematics for the
thomas henry VCO here:

It seems that there's no positive power connection? Is this correct?


Now, what is most intriguing about the circuit is that there's pretty
much no need for wave shapers.  Is this the only real advantage of
using the 8038? The XR-2206 circuit shown here:

seems a bit strange with the sin/tri switching. I'm not sure I
understand what the advantage of this circuit would be? Is it still
only low parts count?

Is there anything else interesting about these circuits that I should
pay attention to?
