[sdiy] Fully assignable sequencer

One possible solution would be getting a cheap MIDI drum machine (I use
TR-505's @ $40 each!) and one of these:

It's not the same as having rows of toggle switches in front of you, but
you would have the advantage of being able to save your patterns. And
if your drum machine can "merge" patterns (the tr-505 can), you can have
patterns that are 16x16 steps long. It also is way cheaper than buying
144 toggle switches, much less everything else you'd need to build the
equivalent hardware.

I love the CGS Gate Sequencer, but I'm planning on building Elby's SDS
module as well :)

WTF!
If you can't set the pitch of an osc, what good is it??? I almost
bought a Doepfer sequencer, but I've never purchased a complete module,
and I don't think that would be a good habit to get in to.

I've been researching sequencers for the past couple of weeks, and it
looks like I am going to go w/ the CGS products. The main reason is
that I'd like pre made PCB's, and to still have a lot of customization
ability.

Actually, I'm afraid I won't be able to reliably set the pitch w/ the
CGS sequencer, etiher. Seems like a fine tune might be needed.. Or a
quantizer.

For Darky, wouldn't a gate sequencer work? Say, a gate sequencer, w/
two switch banks, so you could have 4 trigger/gate outputs. Then you
can control those however you need, turn the triggers on and off as
needed for each VCA (or for each EG controlling each VCA). And if you
need CV, there's always the CV adapter.
It starts to get into a big project if you want 16 steps, which is the
situation I am in.
I guess I have something to do w/ my free time for the next few months,
though.

The midibox sequencer looks awesome, but requires menu's and such. For
now, I think I'm sticking to analog.. one knob directly accessible for
each function.

The Doepfer MAQ 16/3 does what you want. They can be had used for
around $350 IIRC. Not thrilled with mine, but there are certain
things it does well. Using the CV outs to control the pitch of
oscillators is not one of them. ;-)
