[sdiy] Favorite generic audio amp and buffer question

Does anyone have a favorite audio amp IC in the 5watt range or so?
I just ordered a handful of TBA810's but it looks like they may be
discontinued so I dont want to use them for "future" projects.

A quick second question is probably an opinion question. I'm adding a
line-out to a toy that uses a TA7206AP ( thats a blast from the past! ). On
the one hand I'm kinda tempted to just tack the new line-out jack onto the
"In" lead of the audio IC, but I do have a little paranoia and was thinking
of adding a simple buffer just to protect the sound generators in front of
the audio IC. Any suggestions on doing this single-ended? I only have one
supply rail in this beastie. I suppose I could just run it through 1 k
resistor also. That would probably provide the protection I think I need.
