Do you plan to take the audio output directly from the SID chip in the C64,
or just go and use the DIN connector at the C64´s rear ?

Direct connecion would require caution, and you will have a DC offset of
several volts.
But if you use the connector, you are save - the C64 uses a transistor
follower, so this is taken care of.
