[sdiy] Heat shrink tubing driving me crazy....

FWIW, back in 1984 I worked at an electronics factory as a driver, and
once had to load up the skip (dumpster) with unused, unwanted stuff
because of the imminent move to another premises. Amongst the haul I
got was loads of pre-cut heatshrink, except that some types/lengths of
it wouldn't shrink. It had a very slight gluey layer inside, which
melted and then solidified when heated - all I can think is that it
*wasn't* heatshrink but some sort of 'covering' - perhaps it was
designed as something that wouldn't shrink then split after sticking,
as heatshrink can often do when heated again, or when it's heated so
that its internal shrunk diameter is less than the cable it's
surrounding. It's certainly tougher than regular heatshrink under
heat...It was also thin-walled, unlike heatshrink that has been shrunk
already.
All the stuff was new then, and I'm still using what's left of the
proper heatshrink stuff to this day.
Cheers,
Dave
