[sdiy] Opinions on multimeters?

Well...get yourself a cheap one along with the nice one so you can bang 
it around for general purpose stuff.  The "Metex" one that Jameco 
offers..it's orange and about 39 dollars I think....THAT THING HAS BEEN 
GREAT!  I've had it since what...1990 or earlier.  That thing has been 
dropped so many times.  I got a more expensive one ..triplett more like 
70 dollar range...the switch started flaking out within months.  I sent 
it back and got the 90 dollar one that parts express had since it had 
cap and inductance test on it...was just looking for a good all in one 
for my portable box.. That one's switch hasn't been as bad but I've see 
it flake a time or two even.  PLUS it runs through batteries WAY 
faster!  That metex has been a gem.  Always accurate within the 
3.5digits of course.  20Amp input which I much prefer over ones with 10A 
which often use the huge fuses that are hard to get.  -Bob
