Aside from their interesting distortion behaviour, I wouldn't go near  
them. They're expensive, very variable, and noisy as hell.

Apart from that, I like 'em. I've built a few Dallas Rangemaster  
clones and fuzzes with them, and they sound good, but they're not  
quiet at all.  I really wouldn't put one in a synth, unless it was  
for fuzz.

In short, use noisy devices for noisy applications!
