I mounted mine on the flat face as well in my tb3031 and it seems to be nice
and stable :)

I mounted mine on the flat side near the center of the package.
That said... it miht be better to mount it glued to the
actual leadframe (five leads) of the device if you can fit it there.
The die will probably be most closely coupled (thermally) to the metal of
the
leadframe.
IMHO, reality may vary. Maybe I should sacrifice one of these to determine
the
die position (it die-d for a good cause ??? :^)
