VCA ICs ~ WAS: [sdiy] cloning a PPG EVU / Wave?

I'm an MS20 fan - it's one of the couple of synths I kept when I went broke
- but in all honesty, the VCA is noisy as hell. Plus, you have to select the
transistor. 
In chess terms, I'd rate the MS20 VCA as !? - "brilliant, but unsound".
