For kids I have the following rules ---
* No food or drink at the soldering bench
* Wear eye protection
* When you stop soldering or working on exposed circuit boards you
*immediately* wash your hands.
* Clip leads into a waste basket not at your buddy across the room.
As was previously mentioned I would worry more about the flux fumes. Work in
a ventillated area and have small boxer fans on each bench moving fumes
away from the operator(s).
For woodworking I have the following general rules ---
* If a machine is running you do not come into the shop if you are not
wearing safety glasses.
* Hearing protection is required when any machine other than the drill press
is operating.
* Breathing protection is required when sanding or running the bandsaw.
* Face shield is required for the lathe
