Daryl,
A number of kit people (like vellman (sp?)) have little electronic organ kits that consist of an oscillator and a bunch of switches that switch resistors or caps for various notes. There are also those generic 'electronic block' experimenter sets out that may fit your needs. Those should be easy to find at a electronics store if you are near one. Migth even check out Rat Shack and see if they have anything.
