I just picked this up fot $10 at my local used-book shop:

"Build your own Low-Cost Signal Generator" by Delton T. Horn
TAB books 1994; ISBN 0-07-030428-9

270 pages of simple and very useful building blocks, basic theory and
handy equations; very nice for someone starting out in SDIY or just as
a quick reference.

40 pages on DC power supply design, 20 pages of oscillators (Hartley,
Colpitts, Clapp, Armstrong, Pierce - mostly fixed-frequency but a
section on voltage control and some useful theory on the topologies);
30 pages on waveshaping; noise generators, complex waveform and
arbitrary function generators, and a decent section at the end on
PLLs, digital clock generators, frequency multiplication and division,
and synthesizing analog waveforms digitally. Really quite nice!
