Hi Jonathan,
I don't know of any full drum machine kits, but you could probably cobble
one together from multiple sources. The sequencer may be the hardest part
to find... but a TR-707 or other drum machine and a gate interface should
work well.
Heck, an Alesis MMT-8 + gate interface would be a great choice as well.
There might even be enough space inside the case to add the MIDI->gate
internally. The 8 tracks on an MMT-8 and an 8 channel interface would make
a nice pair.
For actual drum voices, two places pop immediately into mind:
Paia makes the "drum tone board" and the "MIDI drum brain"
Ken Stone (http://www.cgs.synth.net/) has some drum module circuit boards
and if you get ambitious, cloning voices from the DR-110 / DR-55 / TR-606,
etc is fun and not very complicated
