To polish up these dull spots without affecting the finish underneath,
what you want is a very mild abrasive. As weird as it sounds, you
might try toothpaste. It's very similar to polishing compound, but is
even less abrasive. I've also heard of it being used to polish and
clean scratches on plastic, but in either case, I would try it on a
hidden area first. If this works, you can tell people you have a Mint
synth.
