I've sort of viewed it as trojan horse to bring back some of the art of 
analog... synthesizers happen to be an interesting application area. The 
other main goal of the course is to actually get the students building a 
circuit and making it work, which we do very little of in our program (or 
EE programs around the country nowdays.)

The more I think about it the more I really want to do two courses - maybe 
one in the fall and one in the spring - with one focusing on DSP, maybe 
do some real-time programming...
