Actually finding regulators that work with only a 3 volt headroom is not that easy. High
current low dropout regulators aren't all that cheap or easy to find. I was going to run
15V off an 18V source and had to switch to 12 volts. Current draw was to great for the 15V
Reulator to work well. LDO regulators may work, but most of the common ones are 3V.

I agree !! This is an easier fix.

And 12V or 25V between both rails +/- electrolytics.
