Howdy,

 Yes,i worked with a Yamaha mixer with this same
problem. Radio shack makes a direct plug in adaptor
for $15. Guitar player books has a book called Prjects
for musicians that is choc-a-bloc with circuits. Also,
paia makes some dandy kits to get in there. Some are
tube preamps. most are not difficult.
