Something like this has happened to me several times over the last 15 
years or so. Typically I'll get a feeling of fullness in one ear and a 
loss of high frequency sensitivity, sometimes accompanied by a 
low-pitched roaring sound. The sensation is very similar to having 
water in my ear. In every case it has faded away over the course of a 
few weeks and my hearing has returned to normal.

I've had fairly strong tinnitus for as long as I can remember - I'm not 
sure if it's related.
