I'm not a doctor, but this sounds like "idiopathic sudden  
sensorineural hearing loss". Just had a quick look at Wikipedia (long  
article there), one reason can be psychical stress. Being exposed to  
loud noise a long time ago is not mentioned as a reason. Best thing  
you could do is see a doctor immediately.

Do you smoke? If yes, time to quit it now.
