[sdiy] Alternative to Mil Max machined pin .1" headers

I'm looking for a low (or lower) cost alternative to the Mil Max
350-10-1xx-00-001000 machined pin single row headers with .1" spacing.
I'm using them on a PCB that inserts into a wide body DIP socket (EPROM)
and the target boards may have machined pin sockets. This rules out
cheap .1" headers with square .025" pins. Most machine pin EPROM
sockets will take up to .025" diameter pins, although .018-.020" is
probably ideal. In quantity I'm looking at ~$4 for 28 pins of the Mil
Max connectors. Surely there's something out there in the sub $1 range.
Anyone? Here's a picture of the application:

Thanks.
