Are you sure that's not just sysex dumping of a whole patch ?
I have a feeling MIDI Quest does that for some synths that dont have
individual parameter edit messages.

I tried for a long time to edit my Multitrak with MIDI CCs (like the Sixtrak
can) or sysex, but never found a way make it useable with realtime knob
tweaking.
