The mm size is the body. The shaft, well now that's a different matter
.. this is the bit that will determine which knobs you will be able to
use. 'MOTM' style generally uses big knobs that fit onto a round or
D-shaft, either with a grub screw or collette fit.
The cheap metal shaft Alpha pots have splined shafts which aren't really
suitable for these types of knobs. Alpha also do cheap plastic shaft
pots (the 24mm RV24AN series for example), but I don't have any
experience with these. Another one to consider for round shafts is the
Omeg Eco pots. These are also cheap and reliable (although you do get
bad ones sometimes).
When comparing shaft knobs & pots, remember that they come in both 6mm
and 6.35mm (1/4") and you can't mix the 2 sizes.
My advice would be to check availability of knobs you like before
deciding on pots.
