This is what i'm suspecting though only having seen
vactrols on image i was less than convinced.

Is there any safe way of testing these, i really don't
want to blow them in case they are vactrols as i know
those to be fairly expensive and inaccessible. 

Resistance measurements inbetween the two grey leads
gives around 2K and the golden leads gives an unsteady
500K-750K. There is resistance inbetween the golden
and grey leads and this resistance changes with
polarity (about 1.2M one way and 500K the other),
perhaps this is a clue to this *not* being a vactrol?
