Yes, that is correct. The acronym was coined by Mr. Harry Bissell,
probably about five years ago, during discussions where we were all
lamenting the gradual disappearance on the market of any and all
useful analog IC's. It appears that IC manufacturers no longer had
much interest in producing anything that could not be sold in
quantities of one billion or more to makers of, um, Gosh-Danged Cell
Phones. That coupled with a healthy disdain for the stereotypical
modern idiots who walk around with cell phones permanently planted in
their ears (and your face), carrying on their pointless conversations
in full public view, or while (just barely) driving their cars down
the road, triggered the "F" part of "FCPs".
I think Harry's term, FCP, is really great because it makes them
sound like some kind of highly toxic substance that (if George Bush
and his gang of hell-bent super-villains weren't in office) the EPA
would be trying to forever banish from our environment. There's
probably something in the Kyoto Treaty about FCPs, or there should
be. If we all try really hard, maybe we can get the rest of the
world to adopt the term. I mean, that kind of grass-roots effort
worked for the word "Santorum", didn't it?
