I beg to differ...
(I was thinking) (honest... I was... :^)
you get a design that is at least marginally
functional... but missing many of the components that
guarantee robust performace over a wide range of
component and environmental variations.
It will work with controlled supplies under
room temperature conditions but might fail to
satisfy in the big world.
PAiA (my experience, 2720 and "Phlanger"... is it
any wonder I hate BBDs ??? :^) had designs that could
be said to 'work' if you were willing (in some cases)
to be happy with marginal performance.
That said... the prices reflected the performance.
The 2720 series LPF has to be the cheapest VC filter
in history... it works... but varies cutoff and not
frequency. iirc it was like a $10 kit at the time
