So I see this ebay listing for a lot of PCM "synth" chips...

And I'm thinking, maybe you could add a micro, some A/D for control
and make a cheap ROMpler module, heretofore known as the "F**king Cell
Phone" module. Now, the sounds would be nothing to right home about,
but they could be useful and fun to play with as long as the module
was cheap and had some external control (CV of pitch, volume and sound
select).

The chips could be had cheaply enough, but would the rest of the
effort be worth it?
