I don't quite understand... are you talking SMD or leaded parts?
I find that for leaded resistors the size of the body doesn't matter
that much, I grab them by the leads anyway.
Yes, colors of metal film resistors are often difficult to read, but
I got a DMM with a nice big display :-)
