[sdiy] cute idea for ring modulator & pitfalls when using as tremolo?

I don't know about 'this' ring modulator...

If it is the traditional transformer (center tap) coupled circuit... it 
will not work as a tremolo

The transformers cannot pass "DC" or very low frequencies...

There 'are' diode bridge VCAs that could be used... iirc the Roland 
MS-50 filter has this type
of VCA in it as the tuning element
