[sdiy] cute idea for ring modulator & pitfalls when using as tremolo?

Right now I am focusing on where to drill holes and how the box will look. I
am sticking with the diode-ring/transformers circuit along with a transistor
based, voltage controlled phase-shift oscillator and 2 input and 2 output
buffers (with a small patch panel inside to configure it in different ways).
The really unique part is the retention of the music box mechanism. I'm
going to stick a piezo transducer in the box and amplify it and send it
through the ring modulator. Thus the song can either be modulated by the
phase-shift oscillator or the song itself can modulate an incoming signal.
The latter should produce some really wild results. I even thought it might
be fun to add a trigger source that generates pulses from the music box
plucking.
In a nutshell I decided that if it won't work as a tremolo, that's fine.
Especially since I've also worked up a wild stuttering tremolo based on Ken
Stone's Gate Sequencer and the Buchla 292C lowpass gate.
Right now the project is still in the design phase. I have all of the parts
and the ring modulator itself has been built, but deciding where to drill
holes in the box and how many has been a tricky thing to figure out.
I have so many to build myself.
I just got a Yamaha QY10 and now I have all of these MIDI circuits going
through my head that I never even pondered before. Suddnely I'm thinking
about neuron pulsers and MIDI2CV converters and whatnot... Ah well...
