[sdiy] patch connection alternatives?

Hi.
I used Ghielmetti matrixes for some years where I studied (Phonos, in
Barcelona).
It was quite common in electroacoustic music studios until mid 80s,
being the heart of the big synth that those kind of studios are.

AFAIK, the matrix is expensive and the pins too. The pins tend to
loose it's goldened surface so you'd have to stock lots of spares for
the future. It's an elegant system but expensive, imho.

AND you have to take ALL signals to the panel (a pain in the @#+*, imo)
I have used a huge one and got seasick sometimes to find things...
distracting if too big < > great when small (VCS3, AKS). A studio-
size one can be a nightmare... A synth with lots of signals, too...

Sad that (std sized) bananas are so expensive and 1/8'' so filmsy (or
otherwise too heavy and expensive) And I find 1/4'' too big and
violent when disconnecting.

...this topic returns about once a year or two =:P

Fernando

PS ... not being able to decide on the connectors is my biggest
excuse for not being working in my synth!!! =:S
