Me too. Takeing the voltage with a center tap is a snap, even if you
don't have that, you can get the supply voltage at a virtual center, the
mid of two resistors from either side.
Blocking caps at that impedance (600 ohm -> ~10uF) are quite bulky as
well, if you want a decent quality (=film) type. With the transformer
you only need one on the primary side.
