Hello everybody,

A couple of years ago I built a rack of electromagnets, placed them in a
piano, and recorded them driving the steel strings with B fields
produced by the magnets, a power amp, and and a CZ-101. Sadly, I had to
abandon the project when the school semester began again. Several
months after my project a group at Stanford (Ed Berdahl and Steven
Backer) built a similar but much more sophisticated device on a much
nicer piano. I'm glad that someone has taken the time to explore this
idea more. Their page is good, providing a description of their system,
sound clips, and links to pages with recordings of compositions with the
electromagnet piano.

Anyone interested can investigate my directory with a few mp3's:
https://umdrive.memphis.edu/rkmoore/public/Piano_Noise/

Or their very nice pages:

Enjoy!
