Like Ken I have never played these ;) but they basically look like 9 large 
floor mounted buttons, I'm pretty sure that you can activate two 
simultaneously which could be used for rudimentary positional purposes. The 
other idea is pressure mats as used in alarm systems, you could probably get 
a job lot off of ebay pretty cheap, they vary in size from a few inches 
across to a few feet.
