Hello
Having found that it's normal for my MF7104 or MF50052T shift registers to
run hot (measured last night at 60 deg C), I felt I ought to buy some
spares - you know, "just in case".
I discovered that some issues of the KS used MM5056N devices. These are DIL
packages instead of TO-100 cans so are suited to a different PCB. They will
not suit KSs made using the MF components.
In the last five or more years, Robin Wood has fixed some KSs but has never
had to replace any of the MF components. He also has a number in stock, so
I'm giving up on trying to find them from a chip broker.
I hope this info is of help to someone at some point (poss. from archive
searches at some future stage).
Cheers
