[sdiy] Painting anodised aluminium - etching primer?

I use Hammerite special metals primer. (£3.95 from the hardware store) It's
rusty red, and when dry, regular car paint can be sprayed on top. This works
well - only thing I don't like about it is that it's quite thick and needs
sanding down before the top coat is sprayed on. Someone somewhere probably
makes a spray version but possibly not in smaller quantities - I guess
automotive guys would use a regular spray gun which is cleaned after use,
and I don't need *that* much of it....
cheers,
Dave
