Already playing with this idea but taking a step simpler. Vertical mount PCB
mounted 3.5mm jacks. PCB for the back side. Threadless. The front panel
would only need holes punched in it. The pcboard would need to be placed on
something to reenforce it. All in all easy construction. I made a very
small matrix using parts I picked up surplus. Worked fine mechanically.
Sadly I have been unable to locate the jacks in any sort of quantity
otherwise I would have already made a larger matrix...
