[sdiy] Op amp selection and the box 'o parts

I use the lm358 like as most have said in single rail applications, but to
elaborate, where the output is required to go to the negative rail. eg to
amplify a 0-1V signal to 0-5V running from a single rail 12/24V supply.

I have also used them as comparators/shmitt triggers to interface to TTL
since the output matches TTL logic voltages on a 5V supply. Not ideal
though.

Ben.

I've suggested the LM358 and LM324 for control voltage summing since I've
seen them used in that role on various schematics.
