Hi David,
I have an ADV-MIDI kit in my "to-do" pile... I could probably answer most of
your questions for you.
According to the schematic you need a "gray code" encoder. 5 pins with the
following pin-out:
Pin 1: Bit 3
Pin 2: Common (ground)
Pin 3: Bit 1
Pin 4: Bit 2
Pin 5: Bit 0
When viewed from the back of the pot, legs pointing at the floor, then pin 1
is on the left.
The manual also says the part number is: Clarostat 500EN-416P-B1
There are 2 spst switches:
S1 is omni mode on/off. Switch open omni is on. Switch closed the channel
is set by the encoder.
S2 is Note range. Open and it follows the GM soundset. Closed makes the
notes land sequentailly on the keyboard from notes 36 to 43.
Both switches short to ground when closed.
