These guys seem to have a lot of products that could be used for this
application. I know that a lot of the original 'data glove' prototypes
used Polhemus emag sensors to locate and orient the virtual hand in 3D.

Not cheap though, and probably requires waaaay to much CPU horsepower to
be really practical for analog synth apps.
