[sdiy] eBay special: DOD R-870 flanger/doubler troubleshooting

my biggest problem is that I don't have a schematic. The circuit is only
moderately complex though. I'm quite familiar with BBD circuitry both of the
N-channel and P-channel type (I have lots of RD5106's and MN3007's &
MN3006's) but I really have never messed with anything that had a compandor
in it. (I did buy one once when I was around 12 years old, but I smashed it
along with almost everything else in my parts bin - including a dual
2048-stage BBD the part number of which I cannot recall but I got it on
clearance at a Radio Shack in North Carlina in a fit of frustration. If I'd
had the Internet back in those days... Holy Shit! seriously, I wouldn't be
the mess I am today... God smiles on me though and good parts find me these
days...)
Anyway I thought it could be a leaky capacitor possibly on the comandor.
The weird thing is the distortion is there when the effect is bypassed, but
I don't think it has true bypass anyway.
I do have an account over there at diystomboxes.com.
I thought I'd post here because a lot of times you guys have a perspective
that I find more helpful although I know a lot of you lurk there too.
Anyhoo off I go...
