Depending how the power supply is designed, it is POSSIBLE
for a unit requirign AC input, to take DC input of a higher voltage
and regulate it down to run the digital part... although you
usually DON'T get away with it....
And it is a BAD sign when a cap bulges.

There's usually a good reason for specifying an AC input.
Give it the input specified & then see what works (if anything).

I'm not familiar with that particular unit, but these are good rules to
follow.
