Ah, but guitar is a bit of a special case because the low signal level 
and high output impedance means that the capacitance and other parasitic 
effects of the cable are actually quite significant to the tone.

But I still maintain that with a decent signal level & impedances - and 
I would include most line level & pro level studio equipment in this 
bracket - you will not notice a tonal difference between ordinary cable 
and super high-end cable.  This may not be so true for long cable runs, 
and of course hum-pickup will depend on the quality of the shielding 
(and more significantly on whether connections are balanced or not).
