I doubt they like that. Running tubes at elevated temperatures does 
degrade them. They need to get rid of the heat.
Rather I'd like to put the semis also inside the bulb. :-)
Maybe if one puts the expo near the tube and connects them with a metal 
clamp or so one could use it as some sort of "heatshield". And maybe 
even servo the heater supply to keep the temperature constant. :-P

I used the 3046 because in the thyratron there is a deionisation time of 
5uS. The actual discharge is much faster though, but the ramp does start 
again only after the gas gets out of conduction again. Which means a 
huge franco resistor to compensate for that anyway, so I figured a 
little Rbe would be hardly noticeable.
