[sdiy] new Moog

The problem is you have a lot of hardcore analog lovers on the list, and so
when the grand daddy of them all, Moog makes a new synth with one mod bus
and a 4 alpha dial system, it's a bit disappointing, since most of us want
more control, not less. So when a fine instrument maker makes an instrument
with certain compromises, those compromises will not be universally
embraced.

Look at when Buchla released the 200e, people jumped all over that for the
price alone. I think a lot of people give Moog more slack because of a love
for Bob, which is fine, but when it comes to instrument design and
compromises, I didn't find any of the comments made against the unit to be
unreasonable. I don't particularly like the idea of having one knob and a
bunch of buttons to control the settings of 2 oscillators. From a design
perspective, I don't see how making that comment is akin to saying I want it
to give me a massage. I find it funny that few of those defending the
instrument actually talk about the instrument specs themselves, but
exaggerate the claims of detractors to make them sound unreasonable.

Having one modulation option is not my ideal. A synth where I can have the
LFO modulate the filter OR have the envelope sweep oscillator pitch is a big
compromise for me since I'm into analog synthesis, like many on this list
and AH, but for someone who is just getting into analog synthesis and wants
something real, or someone who doesn't need much flexibility it is a good
product.

Some people want moog to push the envelope in the other direction,
particularly since they are not the only game in town and many on this list
are building great synths with great features.

but hopefully this will be a big seller so they can keep up the good work.
