I'm been revamping my parts storage over the last few weeks.
I use the Akro-Mils flip-top boxes that have a goof positive latch. I made
a set of shelves so I can easily access 15 of these boxes. I keep
everything in bags in the boxes, so all my resistors are in the plastic bag
from Mouser with a small paper clamp to keep the bag shut.
Bulk ICs I keep in tubes, small quantity ICs I keep in bug boxes. I do have
some Akro-Mils plastic drawers but I use them for knobs, fuse holders,
hardware. Anything small I bag before it goes in the drawer. Bins and
drawers are fine until you move or knock one over, then you'll hate'em.
The nice thing about how I store resistors. When I'm stuffing a board, I'll
stuff any resistor that starts with a 1 first, I grab the 2 boxes I have of
1 resistors and take them to the bench. Stuff all those, then put'em back
on the shelf and grab the next value series. Saves time. My worse case
mess is I drop a single box and 30 bags of resistors fall out and it takes a
minute to clean up, do that with a bin of loose parts. :-)
For larger bulk I use plastic boxes with locking tops, and those go in
plastic storage totes so its all stackable or on CostCo breadracks.
