The PGF7000 isn't a position-sensitive resistor. It's a belt-driven 
quadrature encoder with built in LEDs for current setting display.

Not particularly useful for analog synth without some hairy interface 
logic to convert the quadrature signals into a voltage or resistance. 
Probably makes a nifty control surface for an automated mixer fader though.
